Work on Ke'eaumoku Street starts Friday

Advertiser Staff

That holiday shopping trip may take a little extra patience starting Friday, when a one-block section of Ke'eaumoku Street (mauka-bound lanes near Ala Moana Center) between Kona Street and Kapiolani Boulevard will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic.

Parts of the section will be closed through Dec. 31, and fully closed Jan. 2-12.

The schedule of lane closures is as follows:

Friday through Dec. 30

Monday through Thursday

6 a.m. – 12 p.m. Both lanes closed

12 p.m. – 6 a.m. Left-hand lane will be open, with right turn access onto Kapiolani Boulevard

Friday

6 a.m. – 12 p.m. Both lanes closed

12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Left-hand lane will be open, with right turn access onto Kapiolani Boulevard

4 p.m. Both lanes open throughout the weekend

Saturday and Sunday

All Day: Both lanes open throughout the weekend until 6 a.m. Monday morning (as construction continues)

No Lane Closure Dates

12/21– 12/27 Both lanes open throughout the entire period from 4 p.m. on Dec. 21 through 6 a.m. on Dec. 27 (as construction continues)

1/1/07 Both lanes open throughout the entire day until 6 a.m. on Jan. 2 (as construction continues)

Jan. 2 through Jan. 12

24-Hour Lane Closure Dates

All Day: 24-hour closure of both mauka-bound lanes from 6 a.m. on Jan. 2 through Jan. 12.

No entrances to Ala Moana Center will be affected by these lane closures. However, during the hours when both mauka-bound lanes are closed, Kona Street motorists will be redirected to use Kona Iki Street and Mahukona Street to access Kapiolani Boulevard. Drivers should use alternate routes onto Ala Moana Boulevard, Piikoi Street and Atkinson Drive when exiting Ala Moana Center.

The street closures are required as part of the on-going construction for the Ala Moana Center expansion as steel beams will be erected for the construction of Hawaii's first full-line Nordstrom, Inc. department store, which will open in Spring 2008.

Closure dates are subject to change.
