Top seed at Wailea wins

Top-seeded Paul Goldstein of the United States beat Canada's Pierre-Ludovic Duclos, 6-4, 6-2, yesterday in an opening-round match of the $50,000 Wailea Men's Challenger at the Wailea Tennis Club.

Israel's Dudi Sela ousted second-seeded Robert Kendrick of the U.S. when Kendrick withdrew because of an injured knee in the second set with Sela ahead, 6-3, 1-0.

Fourth-seeded Sam Querrey also was eliminated when he withdrew in the second set against Michal Przysiezny because of an upset stomach.

Meanwhile, Hawai'i's Ikaika Jobe and doubles partner Eric Hechtman advanced with a 7-6 (8), 7-5 victory over Phillip King and Gouichi Motomura.
