Kaua'i names 'Top Cop' for 2006

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Joint Police Association has named Lt. Henry Barriga the Kaua'i Police Department's Top Cop for 2006.

A 17-year veteran of the Kaua'i Police Department, Barriga is assigned to the Waimea sub-station, where he serves as district commander and special services team commander.

Barriga's involvement in community activities and events include coordinator of KPD's Special Olympics and Ride with Pride programs, coach of power-lifting, AYSO and HYSA teams, and organizer of St. Theresa School carnival.

Thousands of dollars have been raised for Special Olympics this year due to Barriga's pivotal role in the Cop on Top program and Texas Hold 'em poker tournament.

Barriga has also performed drug awareness presentations at schools, churches and community meetings.
