Windward City Lights flips switch tonight

Advertiser Staff

The first Windward City Lights festival gets under way from 6 to 7 p.m. this evening at the Kane'ohe fire station, 45-910 Kamehameha Highway and the nearby police station.

The public is invited to join Mayor Mufi Hannemann in kicking off the celebration.

The Fire Department band Ahi Wela will provide entertainment beginning at 6. The mayor will switch on the lights on the Christmas tree fronting the fire station and on the decorations put up by community volunteers at the police station about 6:30 p.m. Cookies and punch will be served.

"Recognizing that not everyone can get downtown for the traditional Honolulu City Lights, we started a similar celebration of the holidays at Kapolei Hale last year," said Hannemann. "This year we're doing a soft opening for Windward City Lights. We hope this will also become part of O'ahu's holiday traditions."
