Thielen picks Djou to run Senate campaign

Advertiser Staff

State Rep. Cynthia Thielen, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, has selected Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou as her campaign chairman.

Djou, who represents Waikiki to Hawai'i Kai on the City Council, was reelected outright in the primary election since he ran unopposed. He is a member of the Republican Party and served as vice chair of the state party. He also served in the state House of Representatives as minority floor leader.

The Republican Party announced last week that Thielen would replace Jerry Coffee, who dropped out of the U.S. Senate race due to health problems, after he won the Republican primary on Sep. 23.
