Rider, driver fight over expired bus pass

Advertiser Staff

A 49-year-old woman was arrested yesterday morning after she allegedly came to blows with a city bus driver over an expired disability bus pass.

Police were told that the woman entered the bus and showed an expired disability bus pass. The driver then confiscated the pass, as is company policy, and told the woman she would have to pay for her ride.

Police were told that the woman paid the fare and went to her seat and then became angry about the incident, believing the pass had been stolen from her.

According to the complaint, the bus rider went back to the driver, 41, to ask her about the incident and got into an argument that turned physical, resulting in injuries to both women.

Police arrested the bus rider about 9:05 a.m. near School Street and Kapalama Avenue on suspicion of interference with the operator of a public transit vehicle, a felony offense.

The manager confirmed those suspicions by using a counterfeit detection pen, police said.

Police were sent to the store at 500 N. Nimitz Highway and arrested the man who offered up the bill on suspicion of first-degree forgery.

Police then arrested the driver without incident.
