Hayashi's 69 leads qualifying

Mauna Kea Resort's Kevin Hayashi shot a 69 yesterday in the qualifying round of the Turtle Bay Golf Match Play Championship at the Turtle Bay's Arnold Palmer Course.

Hilo Municipal's Rodney Acia shot a 73 to top qualifiers in the senior division.

Regan Lee (championship) and Dugal Milne (senior) are the defending champions and top seeds for the Aloha Section PGA's fifth major championship of the season.

Quarterfinals and semifinals in match play will be held today, starting at 7 a.m.

UH'S GAMMIE LEADS

University of Hawai'i senior Dale Gammie shot two rounds of 1-under 71 yesterday to take the first-day lead of the Heather Farr Memorial tournament at Broomfield, Colo.

Gammie, from Pukalani, Maui, had three birdies and two bogeys in each of her rounds. She leads Portland State sophomore Kayla Morinaga, a 2005 Sacred Hearts graduate, who is at even-par 144.

The Rainbow Wahine are sixth in the 17-team tournament with a 30-over 606 total. Denver leads with 18-over 594.

UH MEN IN EIGHTH

The University of Hawai'i men's team shot a two-round total of 4-over 580 yesterday to tie for eighth in the 18-team field of the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno, Nev.

Utah leads at 14-under 562.

Utah's Dustin Pimm leads with a 12-under 132 total. UH's Ryan Perez is tied for 20th at 1-under 143.

WEBER ADVANCES

University of Hawai'i freshman Andreas Weber defeated Memphis' Amrit Narasimhan, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, yesterday in the first round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championship qualifying round at Tulsa, Okla.

Weber will meet California's Pierre Mouillon, the tournament's ninth seed, in the second round today.

In another first-round match yesterday, Baylor's Dominik Mueller beat UH's Sascha Heinemann, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
