'Small bits' of falling concrete close part of Nimitz

The middle of three town-bound lanes of Nimitz Highway has been closed between Paiea and Ohohia streets after concrete fell from beneath the H-1 Airport Viaduct overpass shortly after 2 p.m. today."We don't know if it was one piece or pieces," said state Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Ishikawa. "The biggest piece was about one square foot. None of the vehicles got hit and nobody got hurt, thank goodness."
Transportation workers are using a "cherry picker" to inspect the overpass but there does not appear to be any structural damage, Ishikawa said.
