Body found in submerged van on golf course

The body of an elderly woman was found tonight in a van partially submerged in a water hazard on the Kapolei Golf Course, a fire department official said.

Officials at 8:02 p.m. received a report of a van in the first hole water hazard. Crews from the Kapolei Fire Station found a van in the water, submerged but with its roof above water.

Fire personnel found the body of a woman inside. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. She was 67 years old, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services.

Officials made a thorough search of the van and did not find anyone else, fire department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada said.

Witnesses said the van was traveling erratically on the road leading to the golf course before it went into the water, Cheplic said.
