POLICE BEAT
Cashing counterfeit check leads to arrest

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a 30-year-old Kapahulu man yesterday after he allegedly tried to cash a counterfeit personal check at a check-cashing business on Dillingham Boulevard in Kalihi.

Police were told the man entered the store about 12:15 p.m. and attempted to cash the check. A store employee felt the check was suspicious and called the account holder, a 47-year-old man, who said he had not issued the check. Police were called and arrested the would-be check passer on suspicion of second-degree forgery.

Employee disarms, thwarts would-be robber

Police arrested a 24-year-old man late yesterday afternoon after he allegedly tried to rob a Kalakaua Avenue business.

Police said the man walked into the business — which they did not identify by name — about 5:30 p.m., waved a knife around and demanded cash.

One of the employees wrestled with the man and managed to take the knife away, police said

The man then ran away, but police officers responding to the robbery call found him near by and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
