Business briefs: State sets Oct. 27 biofuels workshop

The state has scheduled a workshop Oct. 27 to provide information to farmers, landowners and the business community about opportunities for production of ethanol and other biofuels.

The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Registration is $50 and includes lunch. To register, visit www.agconference.org, or call 947-2914.

Ala Kahakai trail update to be discussed Oct. 19

A representative from the National Park Service will provide an update on the Big Island's Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail Oct. 19 at a meeting of the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce.

Aric Arakaki, NPS superintendent for the 175-mile trail, "will present an overview of the trail's establishment, location purpose and challenges," according to a news release from the Chamber.

The event is set for 11:30 a.m. at 1451 Queen Emma Street. Registration, which includes lunch, is $15 for NHCC members and $20 for nonmembers. For more information, call 540-4637.
