Slam poet Beau Sia and 'ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro, right, will offer guest performances at the First Thursdays spoken word competition, 8:30 tonight at the Hawaiian Hut. Sia, winner of two National Poetry Slam championships, was a member of the original Tony Award-winning Def Poetry Jam cast. Shimabukuro is working his latest CD "Gently Weeps," which debuts at No. 2 on Billboard's world music album chart this week. HUES OF HALLOWEEN IN STITCHES

Ever wonder what you could do with those busy, brightly-colored Halloween print fabrics? At 6:30 tonight, the Hawai'i State Library hosts "It's Spooky! Show & Tell: Halloween Quilts," a free program for all ages in the Art, Music and Recreation Section.

Carlene Ho, a quilting instructor at Ben Franklin Crafts, will demonstrate how to combine green, orange, black and purple print fabrics into Halloween quilts. It's spooky!
