Lingle, Iwase debate begins

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle and challenger Randall Iwase have begun the only televised debate the two have agreed to before the Nov. 7 election.

Lingle, a former mayor of Maui County and the state's first Republican governor since 1962, is widely seen as the race's front-runner.

Iwase is an attorney and former Honolulu councilman and state senator who was appointed in 2000 to the state Labor and Industrial Relations Appeals Board.

The debate is being broadcast live from the KITV 4 studio.
