In his final statement of last night's debate, Iwase thanked voters and his supporters. "I am a husband, father and a friend. I have grown up here."

He said he knows Hawaii's struggles, and promised leadership, the courage to compromise for the public good and that he will not support an unjust war.

He said he will work for affordable housing, will fight oil companies for cheaper gasoline, and will appoint the best and brightest, not just political cronies.

In her final statement, Lingle said she has turned economy around, brought the state the nation's lowest unemployment, brought a surplus to address education, environment and housing.

She pledged to create quality jobs so people can afford to live here.

She said Iwase's charges are not true, that things have gotten better.

She pledged to respect the host culture, and said the real strength in Hawaii is our diversity.
