Mililani's Tim Marr won the International Triathlon Union Pan-American Long Distance Championship on Sept. 16 in Washington.

Marr, 27, placed second overall at the race — the 2006 Grand Columbian Triathlon — but won the ITU Pan-American title because he was the first American finisher. Marr completed the 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) swim, 120-kilometer (74.5) bike and 30-kilometer (18.6) run in 6 hours, 20 minutes, 15 seconds. He set the course record in the swim leg at 47:58.

Petr Vabrousek, of the Czech Republic, was first to finish in 6:14:32.

"It was a pretty good experience for me; I didn't expect it," Marr said. "I just had a good day."

The course stretched over the North Central Washington area, and crossed the Grant, Lincoln and Okanogan counties.

Marr, the 2006 Tinman Triathlon winner, trains at Boca Hawai'i, and coaches clinics at the multi-sport training center on Cooke Street.
