Tahiti teams dominate Molokai canoe crossing

Tahiti teams took the top three spots today in the 55th annual Moloka'i Hoe, a 41-mile Moloka'i-to-Oahu crossing that is considered the world championship of long-distance canoe paddling.

Shell Va'a finished first, setting a course record with a time of 4 hours, 46 minutes and 4 seconds.

Hititoa Erai took second at 5:00.27 with Raromatai third at 5:00.43.

Outrigger was the first Hawai'i club to finish at 5:01.10.

Two-time defending champion Lanikai finished fifth at 5:05.56.
