Driver arrested in moped wreck

A Makakilo man has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in a negligent injury accident investigation that involved critical injuries to a man operating a stolen moped.

According to police, the injured man, 40, was operating a moped that slammed into a 1997 Dodge Ram truck attempting to switch lanes on Olomea Street, 147 feet east of Iao Lane in Kalihi at 2:12 p.m. Saturday. The man is at The Queen's Medical Center.

A woman passenger on the moped, 44, was treated at Queen's and released.

The driver of the truck, 53, was booked on suspicion of first-degree negligent injury and driving under the influence of an intoxicant. He was released pending further investigation.
