Flash flood warning for O'ahu until 5 p.m.

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for O'ahu until at least 5 p.m. today.

At 2 p.m., radar showed heavy rain along the North Shore, from north of Hale'iwa to Pupukea to Kahuku, the weather service said. Isolated thuderstorms were moving east-southeast at about 10 mph.

Other areas affected included, but were not limited to, La'ie, Hau'ula, Ka'a'awa and Kahalu'u.

Excessive strorm runoff could cause flooding in streams, highways and low-lying areas. People should also be alert to possible rockfalls and mudslides, the weather service said.

The flash flood warning could be extended past 5 p.m. if flooding conditions persist.

In addition, a flash flood watch — a less severe warning level — is in effect through this afternoon for Kaua'i and Ni'ihau.
