Man carrying handgun arrested in nightclub

A 25-year-old Liliha-area man was arrested in front of Fisherman's Wharf early Saturday morning after several nightclub employees overheard a conversation that the man was armed with a pistol.

The nightclub employees escorted the man out of the nightclub, pulled the man's shirt up and allegedly discovered a handgun tucked in his waistband, police said.

The employees turned the man over to a police officer who was working on a special duty job. The officer recovered the gun and arrested the man on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public.

Boy caught after stealing phone from car

A 16-year-old boy was arrested yesterday in connection with a report made to police about a robbery early yesterday morning in Kahala.

Two men, ages 20 and 26, and a woman, 22, told police they were sitting in their car when the boy approached them, demanded money and threatened to stab them if they did not comply.

The three said they did not see any weapon and refused to comply with the demand for money. When a cellular telephone owned by one of the three people in the car rang, the boy reached into the car, grabbed the phone and ran away, police were told.

Police officers responding to a robbery complaint located the boy. After the three people in the car identified him, he was arrested on suspicion of three counts of second-degree robbery.
