Sophomore Jamie Houston became the fourth Rainbow Wahine in history to earn AVCA National Player of the Week honors yesterday. Houston was also named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after helping Hawai'i hammer its closest pursuers over the weekend.

Houston had 23 kills in the 'Bows' sweep of Utah State Friday and 17 more against Nevada Sunday, when she collected 10 digs. She hit .400 in the matches.

Houston is the first UH player to earn national honors since Lily Kahumoku on Nov. 18, 2002. Heather Bown also won the award, in 1999, and Kim Willoughby won it three times in 2001 and 2002.

It is the second WAC Player of the Week honor this season for Houston. She leads UH with an average of 5.48 kills a game, which is eighth nationally. She has upped that to nearly seven a game in the WAC.

The Rainbows moved up four places, to No. 11, in yesterday's CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. The top nine teams remained the same, while LSU was replaced by Texas at No. 10.
