Man arrested for attempted murder in house fire

Advertiser Staff

A 50-year-old man was arrested last night on suspicion of attempted murder and arson in connection with a fire Thursday at a home in Honokai Hale.

Police interviewed a woman, 51, injured in the blaze who told them she was arguing with a man who left the bedroom of the home, returned minutes later, poured gasoline on her and set her on fire.

Firefighters responded to the blaze and extinguished it, but not before it engulfed the bedroom area of the home. The woman was taken by ambulance to Straub hospital with second- and third-degree burns over more than 40 percent of her body. The suspected arsonist was also taken to Straub for treatment of burns on his hands and arms.
