Tuition funds, WAC trip part of UH hoop festivities

Advertiser Staff

Two University of Hawai'i students — one male and one female — will earn the chance to win $1,500 in tuition funds in the Honolulu Ford Shot For Tuition competition at UH's Twilight 'Ohana this Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Another student will win a trip to the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament for the best costume.

Twilight 'Ohana marks the start of the UH men's and women's basketball season. This year's theme is "Freaky Friday The 13th" and players and coaches will dress as their favorite scary characters.

UH students can register from 6:30 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. at a special sign-up table at Gate A. Ten male and 10 female students will be drawn from those registering and they will compete in a free throw shooting contest on the court at 9 p.m. You must present your UH identification card when registering for the contest.

The UH student with the best costume will win a trip to the 2007 WAC Tournament. UH men's and women's basketball players will serve as the judges.

Admission is free. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Introductions for both teams begin at 8:15 p.m., followed by a 3-point shoot-out featuring one men's and one women's player and the men's slam dunk contest. Both teams will hold intrasquad scrimmages, with the women at 9:30 p.m. and the men at 9:45 p.m.
