The nine coaches and the media also picked Nevada senior forward Nick Fazekas as the preseason WAC Player of the Year for the second year in a row. The media picked New Mexico State junior guard Fred Peete as the preseason Player and Newcomer of the Year.
UH's Ahmet Gueye and Matt Lojeski were picked to the second team by coaches.
Fazekas was picked Player of the Year on 22 of 23 ballots. Fazekas has been the WAC's Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons and averaged 21.8 points and 10.4 rebounds last year. Peete is a transfer from Kansas State where he started all 29 games in 2004-05 and averaged 13.0 points per contest and led the team in steals with 62.
The top five teams were picked in order in both polls with Nevada first, followed by New Mexico State, Fresno State and Utah State.
The Wolf Pack finished 27-6 last season (13-3 in the WAC) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
The 2006-07 season begins Nov. 10. The 2007 WAC Tournament will be held in Las Cruces, N.M., at the Pan American Center, March 6-10.
