Mari Chun captures college golf tourney

Kamehameha graduate Mari Chun won her first collegiate tournament Wednesday, capturing the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

Chun, a sophomore at Stanford, took a six-shot lead into the final round and closed with a 75 to win by two shots over New Mexico's Jodi Ewart. Chun's 54-hole total was 1-under 215. Ewart shot 71-217.

Waiakea's Amanda Wilson, a sophomore at Arizona, shot 78-232 to drop into a share of 25th.

The Cardinal won the team title, shooting a final-round 296 for an 896 total — six better than New Mexico.

Chun was 27th in the NCAA Golf Championship as a freshmen, when she had two Top-10 finishes. She has won all three of the Hawai'i women's majors.
