More showers, muggy weather dominate forecast

Advertiser Staff

Two phrases dominate the weather outlook for the rest of the week: "Isolated showers" and "scattered showers."

And then, of courses, there's the "M" word, as in ridiculously muggy.

According to the National Weather Service forecast, afternoon clouds and scattered showers are expected for several more days.

Weak southeasterly winds due to a stubborn high-pressure ridge over the main Hawaiian islands may finally change direction and become light south or southwesterly winds by Sunday morning as a cold front approaches Kaua'i.

The front will likely bring increased shower activity for Kaua'i but is expected to stall out there resulting in little change in the weather for the rest of the islands.

But the wind change expected this weekend might at least keep much of the vog from drifting up the island change from the Big Island where it originates.

Following is a day-by-day look at the forecast as we head toward the weekend:

Today, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Haze. Highs 80 to 86. Light winds becoming south around 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 20 percent. Tonight, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 67 to 73. North winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Friday, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Haze through the day. Highs 80 to 86. East winds around 10 mph shifting to the south in the afternoon. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Friday night, mostly clear. Isolated showers in the evening. Haze in the evening. Lows 68 to 74. North winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Saturday, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Haze. Highs 80 to 87. Southeast winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent. Saturday night, partly cloudy with scattered showers. Lows 68 to 74. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.
