Two Marines, one soldier killed in Iraq

Marine Lance Cpl. Jeremy S. Sandvick Monroe, 20, of Chinook, Mont., died Oct. 8 from wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

Two Marines and an Army soldier, all with Hawai'i ties, have been killed in Iraq in recent days according to statements released by the Department of Defense.

Marine Lance Cpl. Derek W. Jones, 21, of Salem, Ore., died Oct. 8 from wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawai'i.

An Army Task Force Lightning Soldier assigned to 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, was killed and two others were wounded Oct. 11 as a result of enemy action while conducting operations in Kirkuk Province in Iraq.

The wounded Soldiers were transported to a coalition forces hospital.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
