A man suspected of committing a string of bank robberies wearing wigs, a dress and other disguises was indicted yesterday in connection with 12 bank robberies, and for the robbery of a convenience store.

The indictment against Michael Rosario Sr. alleges he participated in a series of heists during a 12-month crime spree that ended with his arrest Oct. 4.

Also yesterday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Kurren granted a continuance until Monday of a detention hearing for Rosario.

The indictment charged Rosario with robbing the Hickam Federal Credit Union branch in Kapolei on Dec. 19, April 25 and July 14. It also charges Rosario with robbing the credit union's Pearlridge branch on June 29 and Aug. 25.

He is also charged with robbing Central Pacific Bank branches in Royal Kunia on Dec. 22, in Kane'ohe on June 2 and on Ke'eaumoku Street on Sept. 22.

The indictment accuses him of robbing American Savings Bank branches in Mililani on April 14 and in Pearl City on May 18.

The other robberies were at Hawaii National Bank's airport branch on April 28 and Hawaii State Federal Credit Union's Pearlridge branch on June 19.

The indictment also charged Rosario with the May 28 holdup of a convenience store on Ka Uka Boulevard in Waipi'o.

Rosario allegedly masqueraded as a woman, construction worker, security guard, wounded Army officer and nurse. He allegedly used a gun, pocket knife and stun gun. None of the stolen money has been recovered.

Rosario is being held without bail at the Federal Detention Center.
