Slater wins eighth world title

Kelly Slater clinched his record eighth Association of Surfing Professionals world title at the Billabong Pro Mundaka Friday. Slater, of Florida, claimed the crown when world number two Taj Burrow (Aus) and Joel Parkinson (Aus) lost before the finals. Burrow fell to Dean Morrison (Aus) in the quarterfinals and Parkinson was unable to withstand Slater's assault in the semi finals.
