The Pentagon today identified a Schofield Barracks soldier killed Wednesday in Iraq as Capt. Shane T. Adcock, 27, of Mechanicsville, Va.

Adcock was killed in Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk, when a grenade impacted the right side of his Humvee during a convoy operation.

Adcock was with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Field Artillery, and was assigned to Schofield Barracks in February of 2004, the Army said.

Two others soldiers were wounded Wednesday as a result of the attack, the Army said. The wounded soldiers were transported to a coalition forces' hospital.

At least 41 American troops have been killed in Iraq just two weeks into October.

As of yesterday, at least 2,757 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

Five Hawai'i-based soldiers, two soldiers attached to Schofield units, and a State Department contractor working with Hawai'i troops have been killed in northern Iraq since Sept. 6.
