Circuit judge on Big Island receives honor

Big Island Circuit Judge Ronald Ibarra has been selected by Chief Justice Ronald Moon as the 2006 Jurist of the Year.The annual award is given to a state trial judge to recognize exceptional judicial competence, significant contributions to the administration of justice and participation in community public service, according to the state judiciary.
Ibarra, who was appointed circuit judge in 1989, implemented and presides over the Big Island Adult Drug Court program. He also received an Outstanding Volunteer Community Service Award from the West Hawai`i Rotary Club.
Ibarra is a native of Kona and a graduate of the University of Santa Clara Law School
