Civil defense issues flood precautions
Advertiser Staff
In light of a flash flood watch, the O`ahu Civil Defense Agency is urging residents to take safety precautions.
The National Weather Service is predicting rain fall in the 3-inch to 5-inch range at low elevations on the island and 8-inch to 12-inches at higher levels, according to O`ahu Civil Defense.
Residents should know the safest route to high, safe grounds in case of a flash flood.
People who live in flood prone areas should keep on hand sandbags, plywood, plastic sheeting and lumber to protect property.
Do not allow children to play along streams and near drainage ditches.
Abandon cars that stall in flooded areas. Do not drive through flooded areas.
Hikers should use extreme caution around streams that can go from a trickle to raging flood in minutes after a rainfall.
