Wie near bottom at Samsung event

Advertiser Staff

Michelle Wie, 17, is 2-over-par through nine holes Saturday in the third round of the Samsung World Championship, an elite women's golf tournament in Palm Desert, Calif.

Wie, who made her professional debut in this tournament last year, bogeyed the par-4 second and the par-5 seventh to make the turn at 38.

The Punahou School senior has yet to break par for rounds, shooting a 2-over 74 Thursday and even-par 72 Friday.

The four-day event features 20 of the top women golfers in the world, including Annika Sorenstam, No. 1-money leader Lorena Ochoa, former rookie of the year Paula Creamer and Karrie Webb.

Wie is near the bottom for the third tournament in a row. She finished last in her previous two tournaments, both against men.
