Bicyclist hit by car on Farrington

Advertiser Staff

A 57-year-old bicyclist was critically injured today on Farrington Highway.

The accident happened about 12:36 p.m. when the Wai'anae man, who was on a 2005 Cannondale bicycle, was heading west on the highway near La'aloa Street.

Traffic police said the bicyclist veered into the path of a 2001 Dodge four-door sedan driven by a 30-year-old woman, also from Wai'anae.

The woman rear-ended the bicyclist, who was ejected onto the car's hood and then fell to the roadway.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center with severe head injuries. The woman and her passenger were not hurt.

Police said it is unknown if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. Both occupants of the sedan had seatbelts on.
