Coping information for earthquakes
Advertiser Staff
Remember there still can be many aftershocks, even hours after the initial quake.
If you are indoors and an earthquake hits:
- Get under a desk or table, or stand in a supported doorway.
- If you are driving: pull off the road and stop in a clear area.
Stay in your vehicle.
- If you are outdoors: move away from tall structures, clifts and other hills.
After an earthquake:
- Do not enter damaged buildings.
- Be aware of fires, hazardous materials, dam failures, downed powerlines, and broken gas lines.
Although today's earthquake did not generate a tsunami, strong earthquakes often can generate tidal waves. Go to high ground.
