Some 15 members of the Daughters of Hawai'i motored to Kukaniloko between Wahiawa and Waialua, The Advertiser reported on Oct. 15, 1922. The Daughters of Hawai'i were visiting historic sites on O'ahu in an effort to have them preserved and marked.

1922: Jonah Kumalae's 'ukulele factory on Liliha Street is almost completely destroyed by fire. The loss was estimated at $10,000.

1950: President Truman spends the day on O'ahu after a Wake Island meeting with Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

1958: A long-range plan for the development of Waimanalo Valley as an integrated farming and city community is unveiled by the territorial land commissioner.

1959: American Factors Ltd. announces plans for the first hotel at Ka'anapali.

2001: Advertiser journalist Bob Krauss marks his 50th anniversary at the paper.
