Ronald McDonald House opens new site

Advertiser Staff

The Ronald McDonald House on Tuesday will celebrate the grand opening of its new location on O'ahu Avenue.

The celebration is open to invited guests only.

The O'ahu Avenue location replaces a leased location on Dole Street, which had lodged guest families since 2001.

A Ronald McDonald House on Judd Hillside Road, which underwent extensive renovations this year, will remain open.

"This grand opening is the culmination of years of hard and diligent work by many, many individuals, companies, foundations and government programs," said Jerri Chong, the executive director of Ronald McDonald House-Hawai'i.

The O'ahu Avenue house will shelter family members of children undergoing hospital care.

The Judd Hillside house admits families with seriously ill children who are being treated with outpatient care.

For years, the Ronald McDonald House sites have served as a home away from home for families with sick children from the Neighbor Islands, Guam, Saipan and other Pacific islands.
