When choosing a table lamp, pay attention to the light output you need. Those 150-watt, three-way bulbs provide more light and versatility. But a smaller bulb (60-watt or below) does just fine — and saves money — when you just need a little ambient light.

Forget paper or plastic. The real environmental debate these days is ... plastic or aluminum? According to idealbite.com, while waxed paper, plastic wrap and aluminum foil all do a fairly good job keeping leftovers fresh, aluminum is the only one that isn't made with an oil-based product. And in many cases it's recyclable. Just one word of caution: Don't put it in the microwave.
