Water restored to all Board of Water Supply customers

Advertiser Staff

In the aftermath of Sunday's earthquakes, all Honolulu Board of Water Supply customers had water service restored by Monday night.

The final five customers without service in the upper Nu'uanu area regained water just before 11 p.m. Monday. They were among customers who lost service at 10:30 a.m. Monday, said Su Shin, spokeswoman for the Board of Water Supply.

The homes would have had service sooner but a pump at the Nu'uanu Reservoir burned out around 3 a.m. Monday.

Soon after the quakes struck, the Board of Water Supply began pleading with O'ahu residents to conserve water because the system relies on power to recharge reservoirs. "The message now is: Thank you, thank you, thank you for everyone's conservation efforts," Shin said. "It really made a difference. We asked for conservation, and people conserved."
