PUC to meet with Hawaiian Electric to discuss outage

Advertiser Staff

The state Public Utilities Commission is scheduled to meet with Hawaiian Electric Co. officials tomorrow to discuss Sunday's blackout.

At the 2 p.m. briefing, HECO officials will provide an update on the impact of the power failure and will discuss its causes.

Sunday's outage, triggered by twin earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.7 and 6.0, caused an estimated $74 million damage on the Big Island and left 291,000 O'ahu customers without power for hours.
