Damages tied to quakes, rains close Maui's Paihi Bridge

A cracked foundation of the Paihi Bridge has prompted the state to close it and a portion of the Hana Highway, between mile marker 45.5 (seven miles south of Hana Town on the "back road") and mile marker 35 near the Kaupo Store.The foundation of Paihi Bridge, built on bedrock, has cracked, according to the state Department of Public Works and Environmental Management. Crews are assessing the damages tied to Sunday's earthquakes and recent rainy weather.
