Man stabbed at beach in Nanakuli

A 31-year-old man told police he was robbed early this morning while sitting on a beach in Nanakuli.

The man told police a stranger approached him about 3:20 a.m. at Nanikapono Beach and asked him if he had anything of value on him.

He said he replied that he did not, at which point the other man stabbed him with a small knife and then ran away.

Police said the man described his attacker as being in his 30s, about 160 pounds and having a slim build, black short hair and a brown complexion. He was described as wearing a light T-shirt, dark shorts and slippers.

Police said the man who reported the incident was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a stab wound and released.

Police find gun during traffic stop

A man who was pulled over in Chinatown this morning on suspicion of drunk driving now faces more substantial charges after a police officer reported finding a silver handgun under the driver's seat of the car the man was driving.

Police said a patrol officer pulled the man over on Maunakea Street about 3:30 a.m. and asked him to participate in a field sobriety test.

After the man got out of the car, the officer saw a silver handgun under the driver's seat.

At that point the driver, 26, was arrested on suspicion of carrying a firearm in public, possession of an unregistered firearm and operating a vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.

Mother turns in daughter for forging checks

A 17-year-old girl was arrested yesterday after her mother turned her in for allegedly forging two of the mother's personal checks.

Police said the bank where the mother keeps a checking account called her to report two possibly forged checks.

The mother, 48, went to the bank and confirmed the checks had been forged. Police said the mother then found her daughter was behind the forged checks and called police, who went to the home and arrested the daughter on suspicion of two counts of second-degree forgery, which is a felony offense.

Thief forgets to buckle up, gets busted for car theft

Failure to wear a seatbelt tripped up a 31-year-old man yesterday who wound up being arrested in Pearl City on suspicion of driving a stolen car.

Police said a patrol sergeant noticed the man was not wearing a seat belt while driving west-bound on Kamehameha Highway about 5 p.m.. The sergeant ordered the driver to pull over with the intention of issuing a ticket for failing to wear a seat belt.

A check on the car's license plate, however, revealed that the car's owner, a 34-year-old man, had reported it stolen.

At that point, the man who was found driving the car was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Man arrested for sexually assaualting 16-year-old boy

A 44-year-old Lualualei man was arrested yesterday at the Kapolei Police Station in connection with a sexual assault complaint filed on behalf of a 16-year-old boy.

Police did not say what, if any, connection there is between the man and the boy.
