Update on quake-related matters set for this afternoon

Maj. Gen. Robert Lee, Hawai'i's adjutant general and head of Civil Defense, will this afternoon provide an update on earthquake-related assessment and recovery efforts.

Lee, along with Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will hold a media briefing at 3 p.m. at state Civil Defense headquarters, 3849 Diamond Head Road.

Michael L. Karl, appointed by President George W. Bush yesterday as FEMA's federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area, will participate in the briefing.

Other participants expected to provide updates include: state Director of Transportation Rod Haraga, tourism liaison Marsha Wienert and Board of Agriculture Chairwoman Sandra Lee Kunimoto.
