Damage estimates on the Big Island

As of 9:30 a.m. Oct. 18. All amounts are preliminary and expected to increase as additional damage reports are filed.

Public buildings (at the moment, county buildings only), $865,000

Schools (public only), $43.5 million

Roads, county, $2.9 million

Roads, state, $4.121 million

Bridges, county, $200,000

Bridges, state, $1.059 million

Kawaihae Harbor, $7 million (including damage to water lines)

Hawaii Electric Light Co., $3-5 million

Hospitals, $250,000

  • No. of hospitals with minor damage, 2

  • No. of hospitals with major damage, 2

    Homes, $650,000 (expected to change)

  • No. of homes with minor damage, 50+

  • No. of homes with minor damage, 10+

  • No. of homes destroyed, 3

    Businesses, $11,659,575

  • No. of businesses with minor damage, 259

  • No. of businesses with major damage, 41
