Two Big Island schools to stay closed through the week

Honokaa Elementary and Waikoloa Elementary will remain closed for the rest of this week, according to a state Department of Education news release.

For tomorrow and Friday, both Big Island schools will continue being closed to students and teachers, with teachers re-assigned to their homes for teacher-initiated activities related to their work. All other staff should report to work as usual, according to the release.

Honokaa and Waikoloa elementary schools anticipate being ready to open on Monday with supplemental use of space in community facilities.

Waimea Elementary, will be open for previously scheduled parent-teacher conferences tomorrow. Students will return to the Big Island school on Friday. Teachers and staff are reporting to work as usual.
