Rogue wave sweeps woman off rock wall

Advertiser Staff

A 53-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man are in serious condition after a water rescue on the Leeward Coast today.

Bryan Cheplic, city Emergency Services Department spokeswoman, said the 53-year-old was standing on a rock wall near Lahilahi Point about noon when a rogue wave swept her into the water. The man jumped in after the woman and also got into trouble.

Cheplic said both victims were slammed against a wall by a large wave.

Lifeguards went in after the two, and brought them to shore.

The two were listed in serious but stable condition at the Queen's Medical Center.
