Islands under flash flood watch until Sunday morning

Advertiser Staff

A flash flood watch has been issued for all Islands through Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service said a round of thunderstorms is expected to hit the state starting tonight. The threat of flooding is higher on Maui and the Big Island, which have had heavy rains in recent days, forecasters said.

The weather service said rainfall in excess of 10 inches is possible for Kaua'i and O'ahu. Maui and the Big Island will see less rain.

The weather service said the rains could also cause landslides on the Big Island, where ground may have become unstable after Sunday's earthquakes.
