Kaua'i High graduate Lehua Wise fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to win the Price's Give 'Em Five Invite yesterday on the New Mexico State Golf Course in Las Cruces.

Wise, an NMSU senior, captured the Aggies' tournament by two shots with a 214 total. Her first collegiate victory was the Sun Belt Conference title in her freshman year. She has led NMSU in scoring two of her three seasons and was an all-WAC second-team selection last season. The three-time KIF champion was a state high school runner-up twice.

The Aggies rallied to win the team title with a score of 26-over 890. The University of Hawai'i earned its second straight top-five finish with rounds of 301-307-305—913, good for a share of fifth.

Xyra Suyetsugu (75-227) led the Rainbow Wahine, tying for 19th. Dale Gammie (74-228) and Lisa Kajihara (78-228) tied for 23rd, followed by Corie Hou (82-234) at 46th and Nancy Shon (78-239) at 64th.

Kea'au graduate Sarah Sheffield (70-223), a Gonzaga junior, and Baldwin graduate Kelly Nakashima (78-227), an Idaho junior, finished Top 20. Boise State's Iris Ocariza (Moanalua) shot 80-234.

UH hosts the Kent Youel Invitational Tuesday and Wednesday at Kapolei Golf Course. Southern California won last year's tournament by six over Stanford. Hawai'i finished 15th.

Cardinal senior Kelly Husted was medalist, winning by nine shots with the only sub-par score (4-under 212) of the windy tournament. Wise had the best finish of any golfer with Hawai'i ties, sharing 18th at 231.

This year's Invitational features a 15-team field. SMU, No. 32 in Golfweek's ratings, is the highest ranked team.

KIM CARDS 4-OVER 76 IN WORLD AMATEUR TEAM

Hilo's Kimberly Kim shot 4-over-par 76 in the opening round of the 22nd Women's World Amateur Team Championships yesterday in South Africa. The 42-team tournament ends Saturday.

Kim, a high school sophomore who now lives in Arizona, is on the U.S. team with Duke's Amanda Blumenhurst (71) and Jennie Lee (73).

The Americans' round of 144 (best two of three scores) is eighth overall, seven behind leader Japan. Blumenhurst is tied for ninth individually, Lee shares 20th and Kim 54th.

Japan's Rikako Morita, 16, leads after a tournament first-round record 7-under-par 65.

KIMURA TO DEFEND OCC INVITATIONAL TITLE

The first round of the 43rd annual Oahu Country Club Invitational tees off this morning. Blaine Kimura is defending champion. The 54-hole tournament continues at 7 a.m. tomorrow. After a cut to the low 30 and ties, the final round begins at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Open Flight also includes Manoa Cup champion Jonathan Ota, who won the 2004 Invitational, and Brandan Kop, who has also captured both events.

Eric Sonnenberg, another former champion, and Kellen-Floyd Asao, last year's runner-up, will play, along with Manoa Cup runner-up Gary Kong, Tadd Fujikawa, Mark Chun, Del-Marc Fujita and Alvin Okada Jr.
