Surfers greeted by 8- to 12-foot swells

Advertiser Staff

Solid waves from around the compass continue to hammer the state this morning, much to the delight of surfers.

While not at advisory levels, wave faces on north- and

west-facing shores top the list.

Surf along north shores is forecast to be 8 to 12 feet through today, the National Weather Service said. On west-facing shores, waves faces are forecast to reach 6 to 10 feet today.

Along southern shores, a late season south swell — with wave faces of 5 to 7 feet this morning and 6 to 8 feet this afternoon — continues to prompt a high-surf advisory from the weather service.

A second late season south swell is expected by this evening and the weather service said the high-surf warning will remain in effect through tomorrow afternoon.

A new round of strong surf is headed for north shores, however.

Surf heights produced by new northwest and north swells arriving this weekend are expected to remain below the north shore advisory threshold.

But a north-northeast swell arriving early next week may increase surf heights along east facing shores to near the advisory threshold Monday, the weather service said.
