KIHEI, MAUI — The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will hold an informational meeting about the Kihei boat ramp dredging project, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kihei Elementary School cafeteria, 250 E. Lipoa St.

"We are planning to dredge the Kihei boat ramp basin to improve the navigability of the harbor, by removing approximately 4,000 to 5,000 cubic yards of silted sand," said Peter Young, DLNR chairperson. "The last dredging was in 1999. This project will benefit the recreational and commercial tour boats which support South Maui tourism, and local fishermen. This boat ramp basin maintenance project is currently in the design and permitting stage by DLNR's consultant firm Oceanit.

"These improvements are part of the Lingle-Aiona Administration's ongoing efforts to upgrade our state small boat harbors and to ensure accessibility, safety, and comfort of all residents and visitors who use the boating facilities," Young said.
