The Pentagon yesterday confirmed the identity of a Hawai'i-based Marine killed Tuesday in Iraq by a sniper.

Joshua L. Booth, a 23-year-old 2nd lieutenant from Fiskdale, Mass., died during combat operations in Al Anbar province in Iraq, according to the Department of Defense.

Booth was a platoon leader assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment out of Marine Corps Base Hawai'i at Kane'ohe Bay.

He deployed to the region last month.
